Prof. José María Peiró, Honorary Doctor from the University of Almería, Spain (May, 2024)
On June 7, Professor José María Peiró will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Almería.
Professor Peiró is an emeritus professor of the Department of Social Psychology of the University of Valencia, Professor of the University of Social Psychology, and was the first director, after its creation, of the Research Institute in Psychology of Human Resources, Organizational Development and Quality of Work Life of the University of Valencia (IDOCAL) of the University of Valencia.
In his extensive career, he has been president of the EAWOP (European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology, 1995-97) and the IAAP (International Association of Applied Psychology, 2011-2014), director of the Department of Social Psychology, and dean of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Valencia. He is a full academician of the Spanish Academy of Psychology.
This investiture as an ‘honoris causa’ doctor joins other previous investitures since he was named an ‘honoris causa’ doctor by the Methodist University of Sao Paulo in 2010, the Miguel Hernández University of Elx in 2017, the Maastricht University in 2020 and the University of Coimbra in 2023.
In addition, he has received national and international recognitions such as the Aristotle Prize from the European Federation of Psychological Associations (Milan, 2015), the Distinguished Teaching Award from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (2022), the Machiko Fokuhara Award Excellence in International Research and Service from the International Council of Psychology (2013), the EAWOP Life Time Achievement Award (2013), the IAPP Certificate of Honor (2018), the “José Luis Pinillos” Award for Psychologist of the Year from the Psicofoundation (2016) and the Research award from the Economic and Social Council of Spain (2017). He is an Honorary Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology of the USA (2009) and of the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology (2001).
