Social and Cultural Activity: Visit to IRTIC and Tour at Valencia City Center – The University of Valencia (October 2024)

On the 10th of October, both first- and second-year students of the Erasmus Master WOP-P program participated in a social and cultural day together. The activity took place from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

The day began with a visit to the University Research Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC), located at the Burjassot Campus of the University of Valencia. IRTIC is a leading research center that focuses on applied research and development in areas such as information management systems, telematics applications, virtual reality, and assistive technologies for people with disabilities. Since its inception in the 1990s, IRTIC has established strong collaborations with both public institutions and private companies to foster knowledge exchange and bring research closer to the business world. The visit provided students with an inside look at cutting-edge technologies and the work of the institute’s three research groups. After the IRTIC tour, we headed to Bar Nuevo Oslo at 12:30 PM, where we enjoyed a traditional “esmorzaret valencià”. The “esmorzar” is a mid-morning meal typical of the Valencian region, consisting of a variety of well-filled sandwiches, such as chivitobrasada, and Almussafes, along with olives, pickles, and nuts. The meal is often accompanied by a drink—either wine, beer, lemonade, or soda—and is finished off with a Valencian coffee. This meal gave us a great opportunity to connect in a relaxed atmosphere and savor a beloved Valencian tradition.

The day concluded with a walking tour of Valencia’s historic city center, where we visited some of its most emblematic landmarks, including the Valencia Central Market,  Torres de Serranos and La Lonja de la Seda, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This part of the day allowed us to explore the rich history and architecture of Valencia while exchanging ideas and enjoying each other’s company in a more informal setting.

This social and cultural activity was an excellent opportunity to bond, learn, and share experiences in a dynamic and enjoyable environment.
